Pay More for a Better School Lunch

Nearly half of San Franciscans surveyed recently would be willing to pay higher taxes to fund better school lunches in public schools. Lincoln High students recently asked 471 people if they would shell out $40 more a year, and only 47.7 percent agreed. That number jumped to 66.2 percent among renters, who wouldn’t be affected by the proposed parcel tax, but who make up the majority of San Francisco’s population. The extra money could allow San Francisco to start some kind of school lunch initiative, like they’re doing in Berkeley, with fresh produce, organic and local ingredients, and brown rice.
