Shell Of Terrible SF Ultralounge Could Yield Wonderful SF Restaurant

whisper dining room.jpg

As we've mentioned before, Whisper is closing in just a couple of weeks (please hold applause). Now the business is listed for sale, and the space actually looks pretty cool without all those idiots in it.

The god-awful "ultralounge" that has been the scene of at least one shooting and multiple shrieking confrontations over the last seven years will succumb to police and city pressure, shuttering after its May 3 final blowout. According to the sale listing, the landlord of the 7,500 square-foot space does not want another nightclub there, but rather, "the space must be primarily a restaurant operation with a cocktail lounge to compliment the restaurant."

And the space is kind of awesome, to be honest. Here's the description from the listing:

There are several dining rooms, two outdoor seating areas - one on the ground floor and one on the roof, a cocktail lounge area and a full kitchen. Originally over $2 million was spent on building out this space which was originally the Potorero [sic] Brewing Company.
Oh, right, the Potrero Brewing Company. Forgot about that place. Anyway, it's an enormous space for the asking $295,000, and we think that if the new tenant restaurant was halfway decent, it could flourish. This section of the neighborhood has suffered from being too far from everything, but with more and more restaurants succeeding nearby, such as Coffee Bar and Universal Cafe, we think the area's renaissance is due. Now, if there was only a hot-stuff chef looking to start his own restaurant... [Restaurant Realty Company]
