Giant Tomato For Sale Cheap

How much is it worth to you to own an enormous, landmark tomato? If you said $1,500, have we got a deal for you!

The gigantic tomato that once graced the door of the closed Vino e Cucina is for sale, and it's priced to move. According to the Craigslist ad that popped up last week, the hollow, metal orb originally cost $5,000, but has been marked down to a very competitive $1,500.

The ad says the big red ball is still hanging at 489 Third St., but SF Appeal reported Friday that it's been moved to a vacant lot at Third and Bryant streets, which writer Eve Batey points out would actually be a great place to grow tomatoes.

After the disappearance of the Mr. Pickle bandit, the retirement of the Katz's Bagel's spaceship, and the famous flap over the Doggie Diner heads, we're really hoping this latest unattached sign has a visible future. SFist suggests attaching it to your art car, but we'd add that if you do, we'd like it if you could park in a high-profile spot most of the time so that this thing doesn't disappear from the landscape. Thanks.
