Cafe Majestic, Surrounding Hotel, Listed For Sale

From time to time we direct your attention toward restaurants of interest that are up for sale. It’s rare, however, that we find one this big and fancy. Is someone really going to shell out $20 million for the Hotel Majestic in Pacific Heights based on a Craigslist ad? Maybe.

The hotel’s restaurant, Cafe Majestic — where chef Louis Maldonado recently made the Chronicle’s Rising Star list — is included in the price, as are its 58 guest rooms, according to the ad. You may recall Alexis documented a meal there a few months ago, which she liked a lot. They also just announced they’re starting brunch service.

Based on the apparent success of the restaurant and the massive investment sought for the whole operation, it seems like a huge thing to just toss up on Craigslist. They’re looking to sell or bring in an equity partner, for $20 or $25 million, respectively.

But we do know the owner lives in San Diego, and there’s a San Diego number listed on the ad, so hey, maybe this thing’s legit.

While the recent economic climate has resulted in a lot more assets getting stuck in the “for sale” section of Craigslist, the Hotel Majestic seems just a bit out of place next to the boats and oversized trucks on offer. Might be just the thing for a really over-sized midlife crisis, though!
