So as you know, Denny's was giving away its Grand Slam breakfast from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. We have to wonder: Was it worth it to stand in line for about $5 worth of pancakes, sausage, bacon, and eggs?
CBS 5 has a story up, (with a hilarious 11 minutes of raw video of customers eating at Denny's), documenting what sound like hellish lines to cash in on the deal:
"Our line is around the store," said employee Rebecca Molina from the Denny's at 30163 Industrial Parkway in Hayward. "We're moving fast, getting them in and out."We called the Denny's outlets in San Francisco and also got busy signals. Our impression was that it was not worth the wait in line for a free, average chain breakfast. However, most of those quoted in the story seemed pretty satisfied. One San Jose woman said it took less than an hour from the time she got in line to the time she got out.A manager at the Daly City Denny's at 2 Serramonte Ave. said he was unable to leave the counter because of the rush of customers. Repeated calls to Denny's restaurants in Oakland, El Cerrito, Danville and Redwood City produced nothing but a busy signal.
In San Jose, a line of nearly 50 people snaked out the door of the Denny's at 1490 N. First St. at 11 a.m. The line stretched past the front of the building and into the parking lot. Seniors, mothers with young kids and young adults all stood patiently in line.
Still, though, for our money it's not worth it. If we're going for diner breakfast at all, we want to spend that hour sitting around in a booth, swilling coffee and reading the comics. Of course, we don't have kids or anything. That opinion could change once that $5 or so translates into a package of Huggies.
In the end, we're going to say this was probably worth it if you had the morning off, but if you took time from work to stand in line and take advantage of this deal, you are 100 percent a sucker.
