Virtual Reality/New Reality At Cliff House

Okay, it may not be quite as cool as the actual Camera Obscura out at Land’s End, but the new 360-degree view “virtual reality” tours of the Cliff House and its surroundings at Quirky San Francisco are a pretty fun way to kill a couple minutes at the office. And they’re considerably cheaper and warmer than dining at Sutro’s at the Cliff House or venturing out onto the foggy terrace.

Though perhaps this little online toy will remind you to get out to Sutro’s and give their newly revamped kitchen a whirl. You’ll remember that chef George Morrone took over the reins at the venerable restaurant back in mid-December. Immediately after the holidays, Sutro’s started posting heavily on Craigslist and Restaurant Jobs, looking for new kitchen and front-of-house staff. Then, last week, the restaurant issued a press release, announcing,

Now that the holiday blur has subsided, Morrone will continue to roll out new dishes, with the entire new menu being in place by mid-February. His influence on the current menu is seen in items like: Lobster Ricotta-Mascarpone Ravioli with Blood Orange-Tarragon Butter, Salt-Crusted Prime Rib of Veal with Roasted Parsnips and Broccoli Soup with Cheddar Cheese Profiterole.

Sometimes (like earlier this month) winter hands us a patch of beautiful weather, during which might be the perfect time to take a stroll on the terrace after dinner at one of San Francisco’s most venerable institutions. Meanwhile, have fun with this camera toy, and try to imagine that priceless view under actual sunlight.
